Ghostbusters : Afterlife

In spring of 2019, I was approached by François Audouy to join the team on Ghostbusters Afterlife as their principle creature and character designer. I would work on the film for 9 months and help redesign, create and illustrate almost all of the ghosts, ghouls and creatures in the film.

The Terror Dog

Early on in production, I was asked to revamp the Terror Dog and it's anatomy. The goal was to make the character feel very much the same to the 1984 version, while implementing some adjustments to make the creature able to move around as a believable quadruped. I took the opportunity to create lore about the creature; giving it triangle shaped pupils, tongue barbs and heel spurs. I also noted some about their personality and even the way they might smell to help drive story and possibility in the script. Ultimately, the Terror Dog was a collaboration between myself and the Team at REN, who did the heavy lifting with practical puppets, sculpts and effects.

The Sentinel

One of the ghosts I had the pleasure of designing was the "Terror Minotaur". I later nicknamed it The Sentinel as it was supposed to be a guardian in the film’s plot. It was sort of a humanoid Terror Dog and had a much bigger roll in the original script. You see this ghost briefly in the film.

Bug-Eye

Later in production, I had the pleasure of revamping Bug-Eye from the vintage 80’s toy to a character that could be on screen. I was asked to do a few concept sketches of the character, showing how he’s move around and different takes on the proportions of the toy. Version 2 was the winner so I explored posing and such.
